1994 n/a Toyota MR2 with gen3 swap

Built to be the ultimate ‘bolt on’ MR2, this original 1994 naturally aspirated Toyota MR2 came to the shop completely stock. This car not only has some of the best, rarest original aftermarket parts available for the MR2, it has some great modern upgrades as well.


 

The original 5SFE was tired and overheating. We swapped in a Gen3 3SGTE from a Japanese half cut along with everything else needed to convert this car to a turbo spec.

Original condition:

  • 1994 sw22 mr2 US spec

  • 5sfe with manual transmission

  • Burning oil

  • Overheating

  • Stock worn suspension

  • Missing underbody panels


JDM Gen3 half cut acquired:

  • Rear turbo brakes were swapped for the n/a

  • Turbo engine lid

  • Turbo shift cables

  • Engine harness

  • E153LSD transmission with TRD LSD

  • “Twin cam 16 turbo” body trim

  • The clip also included a full set of Zeal endless coilovers! They badly need recondition badly but it was a fortuitous find.

Custom work and standard maintenance

  • Full aluminum underbody panels (now available for purchase here)

  • Custom intake piping to work with the ARC intake box and the Phoenix Power top mount manifold and intercooler

  • Custom wastegate setup and downpipe

  • Garrett Gtx2863 custom set up to work with the T4 Phoenix Power manifold

  • Wiring for the Gen3 ECU

  • Exhaust b-pipe for the the original Ganador Stainless Steel exhaust setup

The car has already seen a couple of iterations. The original CT20b setup had TRD strut bars installed but the top mount required a change. Here’s a full list of what’s on this car.
